Ultra J5 Essence

Matt Ramsey Signature Model

Matt Ramsey Signature Ultra J5 Essence

The Matt Ramsey Signature Anaconda Ultra J5 Essence Bass.

Matt’s playing has exploded onto the scene over the last couple of years, quickly cementing him as one of the most talked-about bassists in modern Gospel. His virtuoso feel, deep pocket, and unmistakable tone have seen him holding down the low end for Kirk Franklin and many others — and trust me, this guy is just getting started.

Metallic Gospel Copper finish:
Inspired by Matt Ramsey’s gospel roots, this warm copper metallic finish reflects the soul, authority, and uplift of modern gospel bass playing — bold, expressive, and built to shine on stage.

Features:
Matt’s signature bass features a Swamp Ash body and Rosewood fingerboard, powered by the latest iteration of Anaconda’s AC5-TNT split-coil pickups. With precise pole-piece-to-string alignment, they capture every ounce of tone - delivering vintage warmth, modern versatility, and serious bite, all in a rich, articulate, and completely noise-free package.

An AC3-TZ preamp (with a special-sauce mod to be announced soon) pairs with a 34.5” scale length and a 6-bolt neck-to-body joint for exceptional resonance and sustain, finished with gold Gotoh GB350 tuners and Sung-Il monorail bridges.

Bartolini b-axis Pickups:

(4-String  - J44J-L/S)

These Pickups are the foundation of the tone of the Jahmal Nichols Signature bass.

“b-axis pickups are super punchy and bright, but also warm. They have outstanding articulation, attack, and harmonic response. Musicians who play jazz, rock, country, gospel, and hip-hop are already finding their voice in b-axis pickups.  The b-axis pickups series is based on the very foundations of Bill Bartolini's initial pickup designs back in the early '70s. The guiding design principle was to provide a highly asymmetric magnetic field to fully capture string vibration.”

Bartolini NTMB Preamp:

(NTMB+F 3-Band EQ)

Bartolini's most popular preamp for decades.  "The NTMB+F is a 3-band tone control preamp with fully independent Bass, Mid and Treble controls has very low noise and wide boost/cut range for aggressive control. The sound is extremely clear and transparent. The high frequency treble response allows for a bright and sparkly tone when you need it."

Scale Length:

The 34" scale length is all about feel and control. The bass responds instantly under the fingers, with a solid, confident E string that hits hard without feeling stiff or sluggish. Every string feels evenly balanced, so you’re not fighting tension changes as you move across the neck.

Whether you’re digging in, playing dynamically, or laying down fast, articulate runs, the response stays consistent and predictable. The extra length from nut to tuner helps keep the tension just right, giving you a low end that feels planted, punchy, and inspiring — the kind of feel that lets you forget about the instrument and just play.

Neck:

The neck profile is extremely comfortable. It starts with a C profile at the Nut and gradually blends into a flattened D at the Heel. This makes playing chords, soloing further up the neck effortless. The rock solid, 5 bolt attachment to the neck heel, allows for full energy transfer to the body, resulting in superb punch and growl and extended sustain. The lower horn cutaway is designed to provide easy access up to the 21st fret. The dual Carbon Fibre rods add extra stability and strength to the neck and further enhance sustain, dynamics and energy transfer to the body. Constant adjusting of neck relief, is a thing of the past.

Sung Il Monorail bridge:

The Monorail bridge minimises cross-talk between strings. The result is massive sustain, no discernible interaction between notes, no dead spots or wolf notes. Notes are clear and dynamically equivalent all the way up the neck.

The Essence series is designed to provide classic Jazz style tones, but with supreme punch, growl and note definition in the lower register, combined with even note dynamics up and down the neck, extended sustain in a familiar package.
