Professional bassist / music educator / adjudicator / clinician


Mr. Jeremy L. George is a native of Sanford, Florida. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Percussion Performance from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida, under the leadership of Dr. Julian E. White and Dr. Shelby Chipman. As a percussionist at FAMU, he studied under Dr. Shaylor L. James and served as percussion section leader and student staff in the FAMU Marching 100. While at FAMU, Jeremy had the opportunity to perform at 3 Super bowls (one with Prince), the Inaugural Parade for President Barack Obama, and the 48th Grammy Awards with Kayne West and Jamie Foxx. After completing his Bachelor’s degree, he was cast as a bassist, percussionist, and vocalist on a 9-month international theatrical production Drumline Live. 


In 2014 Mr. George received a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Florida State University. At FSU, he studied under Dr. Stephen Kelly, Dr. Andre Thomas, Professor Richard Clary, and Professor Leon Anderson. In 2015 Mr. George was appointed the director of bands at James S. Rickards High School in Tallahassee, FL, where he rebuilt and restored band the program. His teaching responsibilities at Rickards included the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Orchestra, Guitar, and many other chamber ensembles. Because of his commitment to excellence, he was awarded the Tom Bishop Award by the Florida Bandmasters Association in 2018, which recognizes directors for making a substantial positive difference in a relatively short period of time. Under the direction of Mr. George, the Rickards High School Raider band received 16 superior ratings on the district and state levels in the areas of Marching, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands. In 2017 he founded the Big Bend All-District Jazz band, where the best middle and high school students around the Leon County area form a high-level jazz ensemble and perform a concert under the direction of a collegiate jazz professor.


In Summer 2020, he started his annual Summer Virtual Jazz Improvisation Camp, where high school musicians have an opportunity to learn the language of jazz music in a small group setting. Prior to his appointment at Rickards High School, he served two years as Director of Bands at Jefferson County Middle High School and two years as a music teacher at Sabal Palm Elementary.

Jeremy is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Music Education at Florida State University with a research emphasis in jazz music pedagogy. In addition, he currently serves as the adjunct bass professor at Huston-Tillotson University and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Florida State University. As an adjunct bass professor, I’ve developed a comprehensive curriculum for my students to enhance performance-related skills in genres which include Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Fusion, and many other closely related idioms. Aside from the musical concepts, I also instruct my students on professional ideas, including gig management, image development, setlist design, and recording session ethics, just to name a few, to aid them in keeping a consistent workflow as musicians after graduation. As a graduate teaching assistant, my job responsibilities include teaching the University Jazz Ensemble, co-teaching a jazz combo, and serving as an Associate Conductor for the University Wind Ensemble. Throughout his matriculation, at FSU he has presented his research at the Florida Music Educators Association conference and the Arizona State University Desert Skies Symposium. Additionally, he has written a Jazz Pedagogy article, published in October 2021 in the Florida Music Director.


As a professional, Jeremy also serves as an adjudicator and clinician for the Florida Bandmasters Association and serves on the state FBA Jazz committee. His professional affiliations include the Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Inc., and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. 

As a performer, Mr. George is the current bassist and musical director for Tallahassee Night’s Live, a highly active live entertainment guild with an ambitious performance schedule throughout the southeast region, and has shared the stage with on many nationally acclaimed Grammy Award-winning Gospel, Jazz, Hip Hop and R&B recording artists such as Ledisi, Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, Marvin Sapp, Dorothy Norwood, Angela Spivey, Pat Row, Eric Roberson, and Jimmy Cozier just to name a few. Jeremy also serves as a performing artist for many bass companies such as Anaconda Basses, DR Strings, Gallien Kruger Amps, Aguilar Pickups, and Inearz Audio. He also maintains an ambitious gig, session, and masterclass schedule at high schools around the Southeast region in the United States.
